Meet Claire

Hi and welcome! I’m Claire Barnett. With over 30 years of experience as a teacher, school counselor, and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I offer a warm, approachable space where real healing and growth happen. I live in Greenville, SC with my husband and our 3 dogs, and we are currently navigating empty-nest life with our daughter in college. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy connecting with friends, tending to my extensive houseplant collection, shopping for bargains, and spending quality time with my family.

I work with children (ages 6+), teens, and adults. Having spent 31 years in the educational system, I bring a deep understanding of the school environment, frequently consulting with parents and collaborating with schools. I specialize in helping children and teens manage "big feelings," find calm when dysregulated, and build lasting confidence.

My approach combines practical cognitive-behavioral techniques (CBT) with a person-centered foundation. With children and teens, I incorporate play therapy techniques and expressive arts for emotional processing and self-expression. I integrate attachment and family systems theories to help clients strengthen connections and foster harmony at home. Together, we’ll build practical, real-world tools to manage stress, restore calm, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Meet Charley

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy sitting on a black leather armchair with nailhead trim, next to a green houseplant and window with white shutters.

Meet Charley, a 1-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a gentle spirit and a big heart. Cavaliers are known as "love sponges" for their natural ability to offer warmth and unconditional acceptance. Research shows that petting a dog can lower cortisol and blood pressure while releasing serotonin and oxytocin to help ease anxiety. Charley works part-time at Nurture for free, often curling up next to clients for a peaceful nap. Gentle, small, and non-threatening, he is wonderfully easy to be around.

When he isn't assisting in sessions, Charley stays busy rolling in the grass, following his humans everywhere they go, and removing squeakers from his toys.

Charley does not attend initial intake sessions so we can focus on your initial care plan. Intake forms include a space to request Charley as a co-counselor subject to his availability. Charley’s presence is completely optional. To respect preferences, allergies, or fears, Charley only joins sessions upon request.
